summer update

wow, this has been one crazy summer. I can't even put it in writing, to protect the innocent...

lots has happened since my last post. I finally got to see Blue Scholars perform at the Capitol Hill Block party, which was just phenomenal.

Last weekend the kids and I watch High School Musical 2 all weekend long... I must say, I was surprised that they could pull of a sequel, but they did and it was entertaining.

JD and I caught a baseball game, it was a bad day for the M's, so we settled in to some drinking....

Dave P left the company and we had a great going away party for him last week..

which catches us up to the last weekend. I went on a great hike up by Hurricane Ridge and then stayed the night in Port Angeles with a friend. We had a blast. See the story in my Hiking Blog...

Summer is almost over, I wonder what could possibly happen next? stay tuned, unless its like most of my summer stories, not suitable for blog :)

Seafair 2007! - August 5

It was a bittersweet Seafair, the first one since Glenn died. Glenn and I have been attending Seafair since the 80's. It was a bit different this year without him. I brought the kids along twice before, so we are building on our own tradition now...

The girls and I drove over to the races Sunday am. We found a house to park at not too far away. As I was standing in line to buy a ticket, someone came up and handed me a VIP pass. We waltzed right in through the VIP line, very cool.

We watched the races and the planes, we ate a lot of junk and we swam in the lake. It was a very nice, long day at the races. I would have been happier if Theoret had won in the U-37, but it was cool to see the U-6 O boy Oberto/Miss Madision win, even if they are from Indiana...

Lake Cushman - July 10 - 11

The kids and I decided to leave the pool behind for a few days and blow off a trip to the orthodontist for a camping trip to Lake Cushman.

It was 95 degrees at the campsite, so we spent the majority of the time in the lake. We did get a short hike in on the second day.

we were very unorganized and I left my camera batteries at home, so please enjoy these photos from Jessica.

Goodbye Suquamish

yes, its true, after 4 years of living in a sovereign nation, I have moved back to the real world!

I don't really know where to start to describe my rez experiences.. if I had to sum it up, I'd say, "it was real and it was fun, but it wasn't real fun"

I met some good people on the rez, Tony and Linda, JR and Jackie, Neil, Dick and Mark to name a few...

I am back on the rock. New chapter, new stories.

its just Monday on the Rez

ahh, life on the rez.

Its a typical Monday afternoon. I am riding the bus back from the city. As the bus gets close to my stop, the driver comes on the pa systems and tells us that there is a big police activity going on near the bus stop and not to go west. I immediately look to the west as we are going by Pine St.

The entire street is blocked off, there must be 20 cop cars and I see several cops with bullet proof vests, holding rifles or shotguns...

I get off the bus and go by the store. I ask the lady at the counter what is going on. Most of the time these people know just about everything, due to their exposure to all the elements of the community. She says, "well, its probably a drug bust. The cops know where all the drug houses are and every so often they all get together and go raid one. But, another drug house will just pop up down the street". Encouraging words...

Off to the watering hole to get some more info. One guy says he knows a tweaker who lives on that block, might be him he figures.. no one else knows much.

A George walks in to the bar, an empty pepsi cup and two airline bottles of whiskey in his hand. He gets his cup filled with soda and goes out to the deck to make himself a drink.

some young native girl calls me the N word, but not in a derogatory way, just her way of saying hi. Another replies back that we aint N's, we Krackers... ok, whatever.

time to go home. I make it safely to my res hideaway.. all good now.

sirens blaring up and down the road all night. then an impromptu fireworks show starts a few blocks away.

my neighbor comes by around 10, I am almost heading to bed, and asks me if he has woke me up recently with one of his trademark 4 am rock and roll partys..

finally asleep. another Monday on the rez.

4:30 am I am woke up by more sirens, and then again at 5:30 am...
its just Tuesday.

Tommy!

So long my friend, it was great working with ya!

I was looking for some change in my life, but I never saw that one coming. Tom and I were each others Peak support group. I know this change will be good for him. Good luck!

Champions on Ice

This weekend, we went to Champions on Ice at the Everett Events Center.

It was my first visit to the Everett Events Center. It was a nice facility, very intimate. The sound was decent too.

We really enjoyed the whole performance. It was interesting to me, because I have only watched Olympic or World Championship skating events. They had a lot of fun and did some really creative things that you would never see in competition. One of the pair skaters had the girl lifting the guy! They ended with a tribute to James Bond, 007. It was pretty cool and used the music from the movies.

I was awestruck to be so close to Olympians.
