San Diego January 2015

Kimmi has been living in San Diego for a year.  He is leaving to live in Brazil with his girl friend.  B wanted to go see him off and get some sun.

I found a nice vacation rental in Imperial beach.   We rented that and booked our airfare.  Perfect, the bye week before the Superbowl.  Or so I thought.  My math was off.  We were booked to be flying during the NFC Championship game.  This won't do.   I changed the tickets so we wold get home before half time.   Costly, but worth every penny in the long run.

We arrived early, left the house at 5 am.   Kimmi and Gabby picked us up in a borrowed Audi.  We went and drove around for a few huors before going to Ocean Beach for Lunch.  We went to the same place we went to when we spent a day here during the Jean's house trip.

After lunch we went to see their apartment in Chula Vista.  I didn't see anything familiar from my trip with my dad here some 30 years ago.

We went out to Imperial beach and had some appetizers while waiting to check in.  We walked out on the pier.   Finally our place was ready.  It was big.. Nice.  We enjoyed the sunset from Imperial beach.    We were hungry still, the kids tired. they left us and we walked over to a bar we could see, but it had no food and there were Green Bay fans in there.  Next.  We ended up at a Thai place. It is Kimmis fav Thia place in San Diego.  It was good

The next am B and I went out on our own and ended up nearly in Mexico!  We walked to the edge of the Tijuana estuary.    We ate breakfast at the Wave Cafe.  It was pretty good!   They have a local made hot sauce that was spectacular!

We wandered the entire beach,  up and down.  We saw all of Imperial Beach in a few hours. It is pretty sparse this time of year.  Not a lot of businesses either.  Only one hotel here.  It was a very nice one.  Didn't even show up on my search when looking for lodging.

That night we went to Sunset Cliffs for sunset. Amazing.   What a cool place!   We then went to Hodads for some snacks and beer.  I can't recall what neighborhood we were in but there were 100's of homeless kids. I guess if you are going to be a bum this is a good place to do it.

Dinner again at the Thai place!  YUM!

It was a fun trip, nice winter getaway.   Imperial beach isn't the nicest, but we can afford it!
