Yellowstone Trip - Day 1

Sometime around the holidays, Kelsey suggested we go camping in the summer. I thought about it and thought, we can go camping, or we can go CAMPING!   The Yellowstone Park idea was hatched!

We departed Seattle on July 7.. Dawn brought Kelsey on the ferry with her, and I picked her up at the terminal. We were on the road by 8:30.

We drove to Spokane, were we decided to have lunch. Fast food, keep on the road. We made it to Spokane in 4 hrs. so far so good.   We hit the road again and off for
Missoula.  We needed gas once we crossed Montana, after all the mountain passes in Idaho and West Montana.   We stopped in a little town call Alberton.   It had 4 grades of gas. Regular, premium, diesel and off road diesel.  Off road?? I thought of dudes coming down from the hills on ATVs, for their supplies, then heading off into the hills.

We stopped and took pictures of the old school house, K-12.   On the way out we spotted a used book store in an old building.  I wanted to stop but we had to get back on the road.

We arrived in Missoula around 4.   We checked in to the Hilton Garden Inn, top floor, south facing.  our view below was of Hooters and IHOP! But above that we could see the Mountains.

Dinner time, we hopped on the raod to find Historic Missoula.  I made several wrong turns, we ended up out by the Airport.  Huge farming machinery warehouses and the Forestry Fire Department were the only things out this way.

I turned myself around and we found Historic Missoula.   We settled on a nice, busy, trendy looking place called "The Iron Horse".  There was little decor to go with the name though.  However, they had gambling machines. There are many casinos and game rooms here.

Needless to say, the food sucked.  We left still hungry.  We decided to walk down the street.    It was a pretty cool street, with all the shops and businesses and old buildings.  We found an old greasy spoon diner, we both thought it reminded us of Sandies Diner in Wenatchee.  We vowed to try to eat here.

We headed back to Hotel to relax and get rested for the next leg.
